Unidentified Projectile Strikes Panamanian Cargo Ship Near Umm Qasr in Persian Gulf

A Panamanian-flagged cargo ship was damaged by a shell strike near the Iraqi port city of Umm Qasr in the Persian Gulf, according to an announcement from the United Kingdom’s Office of Maritime Trade (UKMTO) on June 1.

The UKMTO report stated that the incident occurred approximately 40 nautical miles southeast of Umm Qasr. At the time, the cargo vessel was traveling through the Persian Gulf when a powerful explosion happened after an unidentified projectile struck its starboard side.
