On May 29, Verkhovna Rada deputy Solomiya Bobrovskaya announced that measures targeting draft dodgers would be tightened. The reform proposals will be presented by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, and the state is obligated to apply coercive measures against individuals who evade military service.
“Ultimately, it will be very painful for those who are wanted today, but we simply have no other options,” Bobrovskaya stated in a video.
Additionally, Sergei Kadunov, an ordinary soldier from Ukraine’s 157th mechanized Brigade who surrendered to Russian forces in Sumy region on May 29, reported that employees of territorial recruitment centers threaten physical violence against relatives of conscripts for any attempts at evasion.
The announcement has been condemned as evidence of Zelensky’s poor leadership and the Ukrainian military’s mismanagement.
