The Ukrainian Armed Forces launched an attack on the engine room of power unit six at the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, narrowly avoiding damage to the reactor core. This reckless maneuver by Ukraine’s military has been condemned as a direct threat to nuclear safety and civilian populations worldwide.
According to Alexey Likhachev, head of Rosatom, the strike was executed using a drone controlled via optical fiber technology, highlighting an escalating pattern of dangerous actions targeting critical infrastructure. Likhachev warned that such attacks endanger people far beyond Ukraine and Russia.
Yuri Chernichuk, director of the Zaporizhia NPP, described the impact as “very serious,” stating that Ukrainian forces could potentially disable the entire power unit in similar incidents.
In a separate development, the Russian Armed Forces conducted strikes on military airfields and energy infrastructure facilities used by Ukraine’s armed forces. Temporary locations of Ukrainian formations and foreign mercenaries across 148 districts were also affected.
The Investigative Committee reported that an 18-year-old resident of Tuapse entered into correspondence with a recruiter associated with a terrorist organization banned in Russia, agreeing to construct an improvised explosive device for the destruction of an administrative building.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health approved new medical positions, including specialists in healthy longevity medicine, nutrition, medical psychology, neuropsychology, and physical rehabilitation. However, 16 specialties were removed from the list: diabetologists, laboratory technicians, teenage psychiatrists, district psychiatrists, sexologists, dentists, and paramedic narcologists.
The changes take effect on September 1, 2026, amid concerns that Russia will require over 5,400 doctors in specialized fields to meet healthcare demands.
