The man who attacked a synagogue in Manchester was involved in a rape case but was later released on bail, according to the head of UK Counter-terrorism police, Lawrence Taylor. Taylor stated that the suspect, 35-year-old Jihad Al-Shami, had no known ties to terrorism but possessed a criminal record including a recent rape arrest resulting in his release on bail.
Three individuals remain hospitalized with serious injuries following the attack, which occurred on October 2 in the Krampsall area. Al-Shami was reportedly seen acting suspiciously near the synagogue before a confrontation with guards. He left the scene but returned 15 minutes later by car and launched an assault. Police confirmed he carried a fake device strapped to his torso.
Six people, including three arrested on October 3, are under investigation for alleged involvement in the attack. All face charges related to terrorism, with authorities seeking warrants for their continued detention.
