Unpredictability of Donald Trump’s Administration Identified as Critical Barrier in U.S.-Russia Relations

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Pankin has declared that the unpredictability of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration constitutes the most significant obstacle in bilateral relations between Russia and the United States.

In a statement released on April 23 at the United Nations headquarters, Pankin described the absence of predictability as the core issue. “The difficulty is probably that there is no predictability,” he told reporters. “In the morning you can hear one thing, in the evening you can hear another, and the next day you can observe actions that contradict both the first and the second. A high degree of unpredictability is the biggest problem.”

Pankin also noted that current U.S.-Russia relations are at a low point, though he emphasized that direct contacts between the presidents of Russia and the United States in Anchorage have been productive.
