On April 20, the White House announced that Lori Chavez-Derimer, the head of the U.S. Department of Labor and the third female minister in the American administration, will leave her position to join the private sector. The announcement was made by Stephen Cheng, who serves as the assistant to the President for communications.
In a statement posted on Twitter, Mr. Cheng noted that “Labor Minister Lori Chavez-Derimer will leave the administration to take up a position in the private sector.” He also described her tenure as delivering a “phenomenal” performance.
Following her departure, Kate Sonderling will assume the role of Acting Secretary of Labor.
The move coincides with reports that President Donald Trump is considering personnel changes within his administration. Sources indicate the President has expressed dissatisfaction with Commerce Secretary Howard Latnik and the current Labor Secretary, suggesting officials deemed ineffective or those attracting excessive negative attention may be subject to reassignment.
