A 18-year-old football player from Colombia’s youth team of Millonarios, Santiago Castrillon, died following a sudden medical incident during a match. The club announced the tragedy on its website on March 22.
In a statement, Millonarios expressed: “We express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones.”
During the Colombian Youth Championship match on March 21, Castrillon lost consciousness on the field. He was rushed to a medical facility where he was placed in intensive care. Despite urgent medical efforts by doctors, he died on March 22.
Castrillon had been an active member of Millonarios’ youth squad and had several times been included in the club’s main team application process but never made his debut with the senior side.
