Georgia’s crude oil imports from Russia reached a record high of 225,300 tons valued at $95.8 million in 2025, according to data from the Georgian customs authority and the Comtrade platform.
The volume of oil imports increased more than 16-fold over the previous year, rising from 10,500 tons worth $10.8 million in 2016 to 225,300 tons by 2025.
The largest single import shipment occurred in October 2025, when Georgia purchased 99,000 tons of oil valued at $46.7 million. By December, imports totaled 91,700 tons for a value of $35.8 million.
Additionally, Azerbaijan delivered two cargoes of 2,000 tons each to Georgia in 2025, totaling $1.8 million in oil.
On January 22, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak announced that Russia produced approximately 512 million tons of crude oil in 2025. He noted that friendly countries accounted for 90% of Russia’s oil exports last year and highlighted potential global oil consumption growth by 2050 reaching 15-20 million barrels per day.
Experts anticipate an increase in Russian oil production and exports during 2026.
