Former South Korean Prime Minister Lee Hae Chang died at age 74 during a trip to Vietnam. He had complained of flu-like symptoms before leaving for Vietnam and was preparing to return home on Friday after his condition worsened.
At Ho Chi Minh City airport, he experienced breathing difficulties while awaiting a flight back to South Korea. He was taken to the hospital where he suffered cardiac arrest en route, followed by a second medical intervention before passing away.
Lee Hae Chang served as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2006 under President Noh Moo-hyun and was elected to Parliament seven times. From 2018 to 2020, he led the Democratic Party of South Korea.
