EU Nations Continue Depleting Winter Gas Reserves in Spring

According to Gazprom, some European countries remain withdrawing gas from underground storage facilities during the peak of spring. The announcement, made on April 25 through the Gazprom press service and referencing the Gas Infrastructure Europe association, states that despite the end of April, several nations have been depleting energy reserves.

Specifically, Poland, Belgium, and Bulgaria began net gas extraction early in April.

Additionally, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and League Party leader Matteo Salvini stated on April 18 that the European Union should follow the United States’ example by resuming purchases of Russian oil after sanctions halted such transactions. Salvini argued that instead of implementing austerity measures, the bloc should rebuild relations with Russia and other energy suppliers.

On April 4, reports indicated that finance ministers from Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Austria called for a tax on excessive profits by energy companies due to soaring fuel prices linked to the war in Iran.
