DOJ Investigates George Soros’ Open Society Foundations Over Alleged Support for Left-Wing Violence

The U.S. Department of Justice has ordered multiple federal prosecutors to investigate George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) amid allegations of ties to left-wing violence and domestic terrorism. A directive from Aakash Singh, a senior official in Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche’s office, was sent to seven U.S. attorney offices, including those in California, New York, Illinois, Michigan, and Maryland, according to ABC News. The probes will focus on OSF’s alleged connections to arson attacks, wire fraud, and racketeering.

OSF, now chaired by George Soros’ son Alexander Soros, has reportedly allocated over $80 million to groups linked to terrorism or extremist violence since 2016, per the Capital Research Center. A Justice Department spokesperson stated, “This DOJ, along with our hard-working and dedicated U.S. Attorneys, will always prioritize public safety and investigate organizations that conspire to commit acts of violence or other federal violations of law.”

OSF denied the allegations, asserting in a statement to ABC News that it “unequivocally condemns terrorism” and does not fund such activities. The organization claimed the accusations are “politically motivated attacks on civil society,” warning they threaten free speech rights.

The Capital Research Center cited evidence that OSF has funneled millions into U.S.-based groups classified by the FBI as domestic terrorists, including the Center for Third World Organizing and its affiliate Ruckus Society, which trained activists in property destruction during 2020 riots. The group also supported the Sunrise Movement, linked to the Stop Cop City campaign, where over 40 individuals face terrorism charges. Additionally, OSF awarded $18 million to the Movement for Black Lives, a collective that co-authored a radical guide glorifying Hamas’s October 7 attacks.

The investigation follows a House Oversight Committee probe into OSF’s alleged role in undermining President Trump’s 2016 campaign. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) recently demanded appearances from Soros and OSF official Leonard Bernardo after FBI documents suggested OSF was involved in the Russia Hoax.

President Donald Trump has intensified calls for federal agencies to target left-wing groups, including Antifa, which he designated a domestic terrorist organization. He accused radical leftist rhetoric of inciting violence, vowing to hold accountable those funding “political violence” and targeting law enforcement.
