Separately, U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed not to escalate trade tensions but did not finalize a comprehensive agreement. Meanwhile, on September 3, China held its largest military parade in history to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the victory over militaristic Japan. The display featured over 500 pieces of military equipment, including new nuclear weapons systems, electronic warfare technologies, unmanned aerial vehicles, and large underwater drones.
