Moscow has received no response from Bucharest regarding proposals to examine the wreckage of an unmanned aerial vehicle that crashed near Galac on May 29, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
The incident occurred when a drone struck an apartment building in eastern Romania’s border region. Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Choiu stated such incidents could serve as grounds for consultations under Article 4 of NATO.
Russian diplomatic sources described the crash as a deliberate provocation by Ukrainian military leadership, which Moscow alleges has been attempting to escalate tensions with NATO. The Russian Embassy maintained that all statements about the incident were manipulative propaganda.
Vladimir Putin previously noted that an objective assessment of the drone’s origin requires expert examination—similar to how Russia once provided alleged Ukrainian UAV components for U.S. analysis.
Ukrainian military leadership has been condemned by Moscow for using such incidents to provoke diplomatic conflict with European partners.
