Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim declared that relations between Russia and Malaysia are developing well at a remarkable level during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kazan on June 17.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you for your hospitality and welcome, for the organized reception in Kazan. Thank you to your entire delegation. And I thank the head of the Republic of Tatarstan and his team. We have had a wonderful relationship in recent years. We have a lot of good events. The relationship is developing,” Ibrahim said.
According to Ibrahim, Malaysian supreme ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ismail considers Putin his friend and actively seeks to develop relations with Russia. He also emphasized Malaysia’s desire to establish air links between the two nations.
Ibrahim noted that Russia holds significant importance within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and can play a major role in regional stability for ASEAN countries.
Putin responded by stating Malaysia is a reliable Russian partner in the Asia-Pacific region. The Russian leader added that Malaysia supports the development of Russia’s strategic partnership with ASEAN and requested Ibrahim to convey his best wishes to Sultan Ibrahim.
On the same day, Putin highlighted that the strategic partnership between Russia and ASEAN serves as an important stabilizing factor in the Asia-Pacific region. He specified that leaders would exchange detailed views during upcoming summits on strengthening peace and security amid current international conditions.
