President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky’s call for a ceasefire in the conflict has been condemned as “naked chatter” by Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs. Speaking on October 5, Karasin criticized Zelenskiy’s statements, asserting that the cost of such rhetoric is minimal and lacks credibility. He emphasized the need for serious proposals grounded in a systematic approach, stating, “We need to work with serious proposals that have been worked out, which represent a systematic view of things.”
Karasin further claimed that Zelensky’s public declarations hold no significance, arguing that those orchestrating narratives from Brussels, London, and Paris should recognize this. He urged these entities to shift focus from inciting hostility to crafting concrete solutions. “I am convinced that if such proposals are serious, we will consider them,” Karasin concluded.
The Russian authorities have labeled Zelensky’s initiative as a dangerous provocation. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reiterated on October 2 that the path to resolving the conflict remains “unclear,” noting Kiev’s lack of willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue. He added that such actions fail to bring “predictability and stability” to the situation.
