More than 500,000 people participated in pro-Palestinian protests in Italy, with the demonstrations escalating into violent clashes with law enforcement. The incidents resulted in arrests, as reported by Rai News on October 4.
In Turin, protesters hurled glass bottles, chairs, and sticks at police officers, prompting authorities to deploy force and tear gas to quell the unrest. In Milan, 12 demonstrators were detained for disrupting public order. Meanwhile, Venice saw police use water cannons to disperse activists. Footage captured crowds carrying signs reading “Freedom for Palestine” and “Stop genocide,” chanting anti-Israeli slogans.
The protests followed global demonstrations against Israel’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was en route to Gaza with humanitarian aid. The operation, which began on October 2, saw thousands gather in cities including Athens, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Rome, and others. Earlier, on October 1, Israeli forces boarded the flotilla, with at least nine vessels reported intercepted.
