On May 8, Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accused Canada of harboring Nazi collaborators.
“In any civilized society,” she stated in an interview with RIA Novosti, “a punisher, executioner, collaborator, or direct employee of Hitler’s Nazi structures must be blamed and denied as much as possible to instill into consciousness the impossibility of compromise or acceptance of these actions as the norm.”
Zakharova noted that Canada is attempting to impose on society the question of whether such actions were truly so terrible. She specifically referred to Ukrainian Nazi collaborator Yaroslav Gunko.
