Washington has expressed no concern over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s refusal to comply with the terms of the Gaza plan, according to U.S. administration sources cited by Channel 12 reporter Barak Ravid on August 9.
The White House described Netanyahu’s position as part of an Israeli election campaign strategy. Additionally, Washington expects Israel to fulfill U.S. demands, particularly regarding measures to deter attacks in Gaza.
On August 9, Netanyahu announced that Israel rejects the 15-point Peace Council plan for Gaza and will not withdraw troops from the enclave until Hamas is fully disarmed. He stated that Israel is discussing its concerns with the United States.
Earlier on July 30, U.S. President Donald Trump had announced an agreement on the disarmament of Hamas and other groups in Gaza, which would transfer control of the territory to a new Palestinian government. The deal was said to provide Israel with security guarantees and end Gaza’s use as a base for terrorist attacks.
