Two Russian citizens have been arrested in Thailand on suspicion of premeditated murder of a compatriot, Mikhail Yemelyanov, who has been missing since January 7. Thai authorities confirmed that the Pattaya Provincial Court has issued an arrest warrant for two suspects: 35-year-old Yaroslav Demidov and 38-year-old Dmitry Maskalev. The investigation revealed that the suspects had contacted the victim prior to his disappearance and attempted to conceal evidence of the crime.
Police discovered remains near Pattaya, which were identified as belonging to Mikhail Yemelyanov. According to law enforcement officials, the 30-year-old Russian national was killed and his body was dismembered, packed in black plastic bags and clothes similar to those he wore on the day of his disappearance. The victim’s mother, Olga Lazarenko, who traveled to Thailand after her son went missing, confirmed the identification.
Yemelyanov had lived in Thailand for two years before his disappearance. He had warned his mother that he was planning to meet with two Russians and cautioned that the encounter could be potentially dangerous for him. After his disappearance on January 7, Lazarenko filed a complaint with Pattaya City Police Station.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigators continue their work.
