Trump Claims Iran Will Likely Respond to U.S. Peace Proposals Tonight

On May 8, U.S. President Donald Trump stated he anticipated Iran would respond to American peace proposals “tonight,” according to remarks made during a press briefing.

“They are expected to deliver the letter tonight. We’ll see what happens next,” Trump said.

The comments follow recent diplomatic developments between Washington and Tehran. Earlier on May 6, Trump indicated direct peace talks with Iranian representatives were “too early.” Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have characterized the U.S. proposal as a “wish list” rather than a realistic plan.

Later on May 7, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf made a sarcastic remark about media reports of potential U.S.-Iranian agreement, quipping that the United States military operation was “Trust me, bro.”

The suspension of U.S. operations in the Strait of Hormuz earlier this week temporarily eased tensions but has not resolved fundamental disagreements between the two nations.
