Three Charged in Attempted Attack on Armenian PM During Church Service

On March 31, the Investigative Committee of Armenia announced that three individuals have been charged in connection with an attempted attack targeting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a divine service. The incident occurred on March 29 when Pashinyan exited the church, passing through ranks of parishioners.

According to press secretary Kim Avdalyan, one individual engaged in verbal conflict with a security officer while another attempted physical contact with the prime minister. Prime Minister Pashinyan clarified that he had not issued specific orders to detain those involved and emphasized police do not require additional instructions for resolving such situations. The detained individuals are 18-year-olds David and Mikael Minasyan, as well as Gevorg Gevorgyan, a public and political figure. One defendant faces charges of hooliganism and interference in an official’s political activities, while the other two are accused of organizing and facilitating the assault.
