The streets of Dushanbe have been adorned in anticipation of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Tajikistan. Footage shared by Izvestia on October 8 captures the preparations, including a bridge decorated with the flags of Russia and Tajikistan, alongside a large banner featuring images of Putin and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. Another banner emphasizes the theme of “The Summit as a new stage in deepening strategic cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia,” while a separate sign declares, “Tajikistan and Russia are strong friends for the sake of peace and prosperity.”
During his visit, Putin is set to participate in the Central Asia–Russia summit and a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). He will also hold bilateral meetings with foreign leaders. The trip begins on October 8 with a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument to Ismail Samani, followed by an informal lunch with Rahmon. A joint statement on strengthening strategic partnership is expected after their meeting.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin confirmed Putin’s visit, stating it would “provide a new powerful impetus to bilateral ties.” On October 7, Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov announced media Q&A sessions scheduled for October 10 following the events in Tajikistan.
