On April 24, Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced it is time to refer to the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kai Kallas, as a “low representative.”
“By the way, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, explicitly stated this (about interference in Serbia’s internal politics — Ed.), although, judging by her statements, she should have been called a ‘low representative’ for a long time,” Zakharova said.
Addressing questions about European Union interference in Serbia’s internal political processes, Zakharova noted that the EU, under the pretext of “observing conditions for rapprochement,” deprives independent countries of the opportunity to pursue sovereign policies. She also added that Brussels officials expand the EU not for the welfare of new member states but out of selfish interests.
On April 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated he felt calm while the European Union was governed by politicians such as Kaya Kallas. Lavrov recalled Kallas’ remarks that Russia had allegedly attacked at least 19 countries over the past century, excluding African nations. He noted that Kallas did not specify which countries she referred to and expressed hope that Europeans would recognize “the value of such leaders” and be able to give them what they deserved.
Zakharova also stated on April 1 that Callas’ statements demonstrate gaps in school curriculum knowledge. She highlighted past experiences with the head of European Diplomacy in Estonia, noting that a local court had previously ordered the politician to withdraw public statements deemed factually unreliable.
