On May 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko held a joint military training session involving the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
During the session, conducted via video conference with Lukashenko at the control center of the Republic of Belarus’ Ministry of Defense, Putin described the use of nuclear weapons as an “exceptional measure” for national security.
Lukashenko stated that both countries are ready to defend their common Fatherland.
Putin additionally noted that practical launches of ballistic and cruise missiles would be part of the joint exercises. He emphasized that in light of rising global tensions and new threats, the nuclear triad must serve as a reliable guarantor of the sovereignty for the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
