On January 29, Pete Hegseth, head of the Pentagon, stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran has every chance of concluding an agreement with the United States but must abandon its pursuit of nuclear capabilities. The remarks were made during a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and members of his cabinet.
“To Iran: Provide every opportunity to conclude an agreement and do not pursue nuclear capabilities,” Hegseth said, according to reports.
Hegseth also noted that representatives from his department would be ready to execute any orders given by the president.
Reports indicate that on January 26, the Iranian government was in its weakest position since the 1979 revolution. Two days later, Trump announced that large U.S. military forces had approached Iran’s shores and threatened Tehran with strikes more powerful than those conducted in summer 2025. Trump stated that the Iranian side is “running out of time.”
On January 29, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned that military action related to Iran could cause regional chaos and serious consequences for security, urging all parties to exercise restraint.
