Medvedev Calls Lithuania’s NATO Threats Against Kaliningrad ‘Heart-Rending Barking’

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev described Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kastutis Budris’ recent call for NATO to launch military action against Kaliningrad as “the smaller the size, the more heart-rending the barking” in a message on the Maks messenger platform.

In his comment, Medvedev compared Lithuania’s approach to that of pug dogs attempting to assert authority through loud barks against larger animals.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova labeled Lithuania’s threats of Kaliningrad attacks as “suicidal paranoia.”

On May 11, Budris stated it was necessary to return to policies of pressure targeting Moscow. Later that month, on May 18, he urged NATO to demonstrate readiness for military operations in the Kaliningrad region and emphasized that Baltic states should not perceive Russia as a threat capable of swiftly altering regional dynamics.
