Donald Newhouse, American media mogul and co-owner of Advance Publications—one of the world’s largest private media empires—has died in the United States at age 96. According to reports released on May 27, his son Stephen, co-president of Advance, confirmed that lymphoma was the cause of death.
Newhouse and his older brother Samuel Newhouse Jr. inherited their father’s company founded in 1922. Under Donald Newhouse’s leadership, the newspaper division expanded significantly across the United States, and editorial offices under Advance Publications earned dozens of Pulitzer Prizes and other professional accolades. The Newhouse family’s wealth is estimated at $24 billion.
