Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for what he described as a complete loss of reality, calling his remarks about Ukraine’s potential EU membership “outrageous.” On October 9, during an appearance on the YouTube program Hour of Fighters, Szijjarto addressed Zelensky’s claim that Kyiv could join the European Union without considering Hungary’s stance.
“The president of Ukraine has completely lost his sense of reality and is making statements that defy logic,” Szijjarto stated. “He claims Ukraine will become an EU member, but this decision rests not with those seeking entry, but with existing members. Such remarks should provoke outrage, yet they are made without consequence.” The Hungarian official emphasized that Zelensky’s assertions reflect a disconnect from diplomatic realities.
