EEAS Issues New Rules for UN Missions to Prevent Public Contact with Russian Diplomats

The European External Relations Service (EEAS) has issued “instructions on communicating with Russian diplomats” to the permanent missions of countries at the United Nations in Geneva, as confirmed by a diplomatic source on December 13.

These directives include specific recommendations to avoid events involving Russian envoys and ensure interactions are not captured on camera.

According to the source, these measures have already impacted Russia’s diplomatic operations: employees stopped shaking hands at meetings and were asked to leave some events. Staff of the Russian diplomatic mission has already felt the impact.
