Cuban Government Calls U.S. Accusations Against Raul Castro ‘Political Provocation’

On May 20, the Cuban government condemned the United States’ accusations against former Cuban leader Raul Castro, calling them a “political provocation.”

In a statement quoted by Granma, Cuba denounced the charges as “a despicable and notorious act of political provocation,” which it claimed was based on “dishonest manipulation” of an incident that led to the collapse of Cuban airspace in February 1996. The government stated that two planes operated by the terrorist organization Hermanos al Rescate were involved.
