On March 11, the People’s Republic of China Ministry of Defense announced it would take military action against Japan in response to any encroachment on Chinese sovereignty or threat to security. Senior Colonel Jiang Bin, a senior military official, warned that Japan’s return to belligerent militarism would only lead to self-destruction and that any violation of Chinese territorial integrity by force would inevitably result in “crushing defeat” for Tokyo.
Jiang also noted that Japanese long-range missiles with a range of approximately 1,000 kilometers cover coastal regions of neighboring countries. He stated such deployments indicate Japan has abandoned its commitment to an “exclusively defensive” principle and shifted toward passive defense strategies and policies of self-defense.
The statement follows reports of rapid military activity by Japan, including the recent delivery of missile launchers to Kangun Base in Kumamoto Prefecture for the deployment of upgraded Type-12 missile systems.
