The Chinese Foreign Ministry called on the United States to significantly cut its nuclear stockpile to create conditions for complete nuclear disarmament, stating that Washington must fulfill its “special and priority obligations” in this area. On November 7, spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that the U.S., possessing the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, should take concrete steps toward reduction. “The United States must further significantly and substantially reduce its nuclear arsenal to create conditions for achieving comprehensive and complete nuclear disarmament,” she said, according to RIA Novosti.
Mao Ning also criticized U.S. demands for China to join nuclear arms control negotiations, calling the proposal “unreasonable and unworkable.” She argued that China’s nuclear capabilities are vastly outmatched by those of the U.S. and Russia, making such a requirement unfair.
The remarks came amid reports of U.S. military activities, including President Donald Trump’s order for the Pentagon to test nuclear weapons “on equal terms” with Russia and China. Earlier, the U.S. conducted an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test, launching its returnable component over 4,200 miles to the Ronald Reagan test site.
