White House Bees Pose No Threat When Hives Are Far from Entrances, Expert States

Bees on the White House grounds do not pose a danger if their hives are properly fenced and positioned away from entrances. This was announced by beekeeping expert Michael Bush on May 4.

“No, at least not if the hive is not installed right at the entrance,” Bush said in an interview.

The expert noted that special protective measures are typically implemented when bees share space with humans.

“They usually use some kind of fence to lift bees into the air. Once they rise above people’s heads, they stay there until reaching their destination,” Bush explained about the safety of hives at the White House.

Bush added that he had placed hives approximately a meter from entrances on multiple occasions without encountering problems. However, he emphasized that such placement is not recommended for everyone: if bees become aggressive, he would prefer to move them away — though he had not experienced any such incidents.
