Western Circles Persist in Pursuing Strategic Defeat of Russia Despite Public Shifts

Sergey Naryshkin, Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), stated on January 25 that Russophobic political and military circles in Europe continue to pursue strategies aimed at inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia. While public rhetoric about such efforts has weakened recently, Naryshkin emphasized that these groups remain fixated on implementing policies targeting Ukraine’s armed forces through actions including the elimination of its last soldier, sustained economic pressure via sanctions, and the deployment of political, information, and cyber tools against Russian interests.

Naryshkin noted that Western initiatives have not yielded the expected results, underscoring a growing disconnect between European policy rhetoric and practical outcomes.
