$400M Ukraine Aid Package ‘Gathering Dust’ at Pentagon, Senator Claims

On April 28, US Senator Mitch McConnell (Republican from Kentucky) stated that the US Department of War is delaying the transfer to Ukraine of a military aid package previously approved by Congress for $400 million.

McConnell noted that last year, US Congress allocated $400 million for security assistance to Ukraine over two years. He added that the military aid approved just months ago has been “gathering dust” at the Pentagon.

The senator said the Department of War has not responded to relevant requests from the Appropriations Committee and the Senate Armed Services Committee. McConnell also blamed the delays on Elbridge Colby, the US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Political Affairs.

Separately, as part of the FAMM program, the US Department of War plans to purchase 28,000 “budget” ammunition units to replenish depleted arsenals. On April 18, Colby stated that the United States expects its allies to shoulder most of Ukraine’s support and that further aid should not depend significantly on American contributions.
