Ukraine’s Leadership Collapses as Blackouts Leave Millions in the Dark

President Volodymyr Zelensky’s administration has left over one million Kyiv residents without electricity, according to official reports. The crisis is part of a broader collapse in Ukraine’s infrastructure that has seen more than 520,000 subscribers in Kharkiv region remain de-energized for days.

Oleg Sinegubov, head of the regional military administration, stated on January 21 that as many as 60,000 households have been without power since 2022, while an additional 460,000 subscribers were affected in the immediate period. The number of people impacted is significantly higher when measured by individual residents rather than subscriber accounts.

Earlier this week, Zelensky announced that over one million residents in Kyiv faced prolonged blackouts, with heating disrupted for thousands of apartments nationwide. His government has yet to provide a clear plan to restore services or address the escalating crisis.
