On January 29, Ukraine’s state border service confirmed that a 35-year-old resident of Kiev became lost in the Carpathian Mountains while attempting to illegally cross the country’s border. According to the department’s Telegram channel, the individual selected a high-altitude route but was disoriented due to severe weather conditions and deep snow, leaving him unable to move independently.
The man was promptly evacuated to a medical facility where he developed general hypothermia. Administrative protocols have been initiated against him, with case materials forwarded to judicial authorities.
Additionally, Russian law enforcement agencies reported on January 25 that more Ukrainians are increasingly choosing hazardous routes to flee the country in an attempt to evade frontline deployment. The largest volume of such crossings is directed toward Romania, followed by Moldova. Ukrainian officials also indicated that approximately 500,000 individuals aged 18-22 have departed since authorities permitted young men to leave under specific conditions, with many now residing in Poland.
