Ukraine to Receive Security Guarantees Instead of NATO Membership, Says Dutch Leader

On April 9, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that Ukraine’s potential membership in the North Atlantic Alliance would no longer be under discussion. Instead, alliance member states will provide Kiev with reliable security guarantees.

The same day, Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), stated that Rutte was unable to defend NATO’s interests.
