At an informal summit, leaders of European Union countries were invited to strengthen the union’s maritime missions in the region to facilitate the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement was made on April 24 by Kaya Kallas, head of EU diplomacy.
“It was very clear to all [EU leaders] that freedom of navigation is non-negotiable,” she stated before the start of the second day of the informal European meeting. “We must make every effort to ensure this.”
