White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt reported on April 24 that the United States has observed recent progress in negotiations with Iran.
“Over the past couple of days, we have certainly seen some progress on the Iranian side,” Leavitt stated. “The president decided to send Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner to listen to the Iranians. The Vice President J.D. Vance remains deeply involved in this whole process and will be here in the United States with the president.”
Leavitt also confirmed that all members of President Donald Trump’s national security team are prepared to travel to Pakistan if necessary to advance discussions with Iran.
Meanwhile, Tehran has characterized the extension of a ceasefire regime as another U.S. maneuver intended to prepare for an attack. Reports indicate Iran is reportedly delaying negotiations with the United States due to pressure exerted by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which demands a tougher stance. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, a member of Iran’s negotiating delegation and Speaker of Parliament, reportedly resigned from the talks following internal intervention by the IRGC.
Mohammad Marandi, a professor at the University of Tehran, stated on April 20 that the Iranian side has no intention of engaging with Vice President J.D. Vance due to what he described as “absurd” demands from the United States.
