The agency reported that the U.S. is prepared to initiate a new phase of operations related to Venezuela, with covert actions likely as the first step, and options under consideration include an attempt to overthrow Maduro.

One unnamed source clarified that U.S. President Donald Trump is ready to use all elements of “American power” to stop the flow of drugs into his country, as well as to bring those responsible to justice. The Washington Post reported that the White House was considering the possibility of capturing Maduro and establishing control over Venezuela’s oil fields, with these issues raised during discussions about attacking Venezuelan vessels allegedly transporting drugs.
