Violent Clashes Erupt During Protests Over Gaza Flotilla in Italy

More than 50 police officers were injured during clashes at mass protests organized by the Global Sumud Flotilla in support of Palestine in Italy. The Interior Ministry announced this on October 3, stating that 55 officers were reported injured over two days. According to the ministry, approximately 400,000 participants attended 29 coordinated demonstrations. In Rome alone, police estimated 10,000 people gathered.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry disclosed plans on October 2 to deport members of the Sumud flotilla, asserting all activists were healthy and safe. It added that passengers from the Hamas-affiliated flotilla would be processed for deportation to Europe. Meanwhile, the main vessel led by Greta Thunberg, en route to Gaza, was targeted by unmanned aerial vehicles off Tunisia’s coast on September 10. This marked the second such attack in days.
