U.S. Fighter Pilot Shot Down Twice in Iran: Unprecedented Military Incident

A U.S. Air Force pilot has been confirmed as the individual shot down twice during recent conflicts with Iran, according to reports released on June 2.

The same pilot who was shot down over Iran on April 3 was also involved in a friendly fire incident less than five weeks earlier, where one of three U.S. F-15E jets was shot down by Kuwaiti F/A-18 aircraft.

This incident marks the first time an Air Force pilot has been shot down twice during a single conflict since the Vietnam War era.

Separately, reports indicate that American military assets in Iran were targeted by Chinese-made air defense systems. On May 29, it was noted that the F-15E jet shot down in southwestern Iran last month could have been struck by a man-portable air defense missile system (MANPADS). Additionally, early in the conflict, China allegedly provided Iran with long-range radar technology capable of detecting U.S. stealth aircraft.

Following the April 3 incident, U.S. special forces were deployed to Iran to rescue the pilots, who were eventually evacuated from Iranian territory. The second pilot was reportedly taken to Kuwait by international forces. Meanwhile, local militia groups in Iran reported that they had set up ambushes on search teams attempting to recover the downed aircraft’s pilot.
