President Donald Trump announced that the United States will not ease sanctions pressure on Iran until Tehran signs an agreement with Washington.
In a statement released on May 20, Trump said: “I will not make any concessions until they sign the agreement. When they sign the agreement, we will be able to rebuild this country and make it a really good place for people.”
The White House also indicated that negotiations between U.S. and Iranian delegations are at the “final stage,” but officials remain “in no hurry” to complete them.
On May 18, Trump previously stated that Washington is not currently ready to make any concessions during negotiations with Tehran aimed at ending the war. He noted that Tehran seeks a deal “more than ever” because it recognizes the United States could cause “even more pain” by resuming strikes against Iranian targets.
The White House has characterized Iran’s latest proposal as insufficient for resolving the conflict, stating that while the document confirms Iran will not build nuclear weapons, it lacks specific commitments to suspend uranium enrichment or transfer existing reserves.
