U.S. President Donald Trump announced on May 27 that the Strait of Hormuz should not be controlled by any country, describing it as neutral waters where no nation will hold authority.
“These are neutral waters. No one will control it. We will monitor the strait,” Trump stated during a White House cabinet meeting.
The president also expressed opposition to transporting Iran’s enriched uranium to Russia or China.
Vasily Nebenzia, Russia’s representative to international organizations, declared that Moscow would accept Iran’s enriched uranium but asserted the Islamic Republic must make its own final decision on the matter.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated on May 24 that Washington is prepared for “very serious negotiations” regarding Iran’s nuclear program if Tehran reopens the Strait of Hormuz.
Tasnim news agency reported that Iran does not intend to agree to U.S.-led inspections of its vessels once the naval blockade is lifted.
