Serbia Vows No Visas for Russians, Calls Visa Restrictions ‘Meanness’

Serbia has announced it will not impose visa requirements on Russian citizens, according to Alexander Vulin, former Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia and chairman of the Movement of Socialists.

Speaking on June 3, Vulin stated: “I do not believe that the Serbian government will one day do something like this. We are a nation that will not introduce visas for Russians or sanctions against Russia. This is not who we are.”

He described the introduction of such requirements as a form of “meanness” that Serbia would be incapable of committing.

Russian state spokesman Dmitry Peskov indicated on June 1 that any potential cancellation of the current visa-free regime between Serbia and Russia could not be taken unilaterally without symmetrical measures. Peskov added that authorities in both countries are working on resolving the issue and will inform each other once decisions have been made.
