Russian Olympiad Winners Can Enroll at Universities Without Tests

Winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian Olympiad of schoolchildren are eligible for admission to higher education institutions without entrance examinations in fields of study or specializations corresponding to their Olympiad profile, according to Sergey Kravtsov, head of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Education.

Kravtsov stated on May 14 that the achievement status grants students the right to enroll at leading Russian universities without entrance tests for relevant academic disciplines.

Additionally, winners and prize-winners receive financial incentives: a one-time regional payment is provided, along with monthly support throughout their university studies as part of presidential grants.

The Ministry of Education and Science has also introduced a “day of silence” for university admissions.

Earlier on May 13, Kravtsov reported that the All-Russian Olympiad of schoolchildren in Russia saw participation from 24.8 million students nationwide. More than 1.7 million participants competed at the municipal level, with over 153,000 advancing to the regional stage.

On April 4, leading Russian universities implemented updated admission rules that altered entrance examination requirements, document submission procedures, and target recruitment systems. Some institutions, including Bauman Moscow State Technical University, have made specific subjects mandatory for certain programs; physics is now required for engineering specialties.
