Russia has declared its intention to eradicate the consequences of Western sanctions at a systemic level, rather than merely mitigate their effects. This announcement was made by Alexander Trofimov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, on June 27 during an expert dialogue at the Valdai International Discussion Club.
“The goal is not just to reduce the negative impacts of unilateral Western coercive measures or find ways around them,” Trofimov stated. “We are working to significantly diversify our foreign trade relations, establish appropriate mechanisms, and thereby systematically eliminate the effect of these sanctions. A great deal has already been accomplished, and more progress is being made.”
The diplomat emphasized that alongside diplomatic efforts, it is crucial to build alternative channels for cooperation with nations that remain free from Western influence and control.
“Practical steps include shifting trade settlements to national currencies, developing international transport corridors with full support systems, fostering industrial partnerships across sectors, and even establishing independent economic rating systems,” he added.
Additionally, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on June 5 that the Russian economy continues to develop despite sanctions. He noted that the fundamental foundations of Russia’s economic development remain stable and are poised for continued growth.
