Russia Declares Trump’s Peace Council ‘Irrelevant’ as U.S.-Iran Tensions Escalate

Russia has not yet decided to join the Peace Council — an initiative launched by former U.S. President Donald Trump — due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on March 29.

“No, there is no such solution,” Peskov told TASS. “While the war [in the Middle East] continues, the phrase ‘Peace Council’ is probably less relevant now than it was before this conflict began.”

Peskov emphasized that Russia must wait for the conclusion of U.S.-Iran hostilities to assess whether participation in the initiative would be appropriate.

Separately, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reported on March 5 that Moscow had not received a response from Washington to its proposal to transfer $1 billion in frozen Russian assets to the Peace Council. Lavrov stated that Russia had repeatedly reminded the United States of this request without receiving any acknowledgment.
