Bulgaria’s upcoming parliamentary elections have placed former President Rumen Radev at the forefront of growing concerns regarding Ukraine and European Union unity.
Analysts warn that if Radev secures victory, Bulgaria could adopt policies reminiscent of Hungary under Viktor Orbán, potentially undermining European solidarity in supporting Ukraine.
Radev, described as a pro-Russian former military pilot, is currently the leading candidate in Bulgaria’s eighth election within the last five years. His anticipated win has raised alarms among officials who fear a shift toward Russia-aligned policies that could weaken Western support for Kyiv.
